Buggy Cpanel skins

Date November 15, 2007

Some of the “pretty” Cpanel skins are buggy: your safest bet is the X3 skin.
I encountered some problems recently with trying to create subdomains. The host researched and learned that Cpanel is aware of this bug (and others) with that skin, and that Cpanel is not concerned about fixing it since they provide other skins [...]

Bad code in Wordpress posts

Date November 14, 2007

[Post moved from ChillyCool.com]
Note to self: when the site starts displaying wrong in browsers, don’t just check themes and plugins. Check the latest posts for weird code left by Word or other word processors, or whatever software may have handled the post before it went into the Wordpress database.
Word & Pals can insert the strangest [...]

Using Todoist as a mini-portal

Date November 13, 2007

I started using Todoist a few weeks ago. It’s pretty powerful once you figure out all its functions. Here’s how I’m using it.
Nested sidebar folders. In the sidebar, you have a list all your to-do lists. Call them folders, projects, whatever. I set up three major categories for my sites: Affiliate Marketing, Blogging, Other. Then [...]

WP Text Ads

Date November 11, 2007

WP Text Ads lets you sell ads with no broker commissions and - get this - no-follow tags if you want ‘em. I’m wondering if this could be a solution to the paid text ads issue.
This service is a ways away from being able to compete with /* , LinkWorth and other biggies, but it [...]

Hosting Lessons: Watch for core dumps

Date November 8, 2007

If your host runs their own servers, they probably install all the software and perform all the configurations necessary to make that server work well. Hardware is important for reliability and speed, but so is server software.
Once upon a time, I upgraded to Wordpress 2.3 when it was brand new. I did this on several [...]

Hosting Lessons: Backups are not necessarily so wonderful

Date November 7, 2007

I rarely ask for support from hosts. I check everything in my power, do research online, etc., to avoid having to ask them for help. Why? Here’s an example.
Once upon a time, Sapphire was having a little problem with a site. She read and she studied and she asked friends, but she [...]

Now showing FeedBurner stats

Date November 6, 2007

I’ve got my Feedburner stats now showing in the lower right-hand sidebar. I’m hoping they’ll hit the triple digits before the end of the year.
Also, changed the theme.

October Earnings

Date November 6, 2007

My earnings fell a bit in October - from $424 to 401. Not bad - the drop was caused by BlogHer, which is having a lean couple of months. Interestingly, they do this thing I can only describe as communicating with publishers in which they, like, tell us they don’t have a lot of ads [...]

WTF is this “interesting post” trackback spam?

Date November 5, 2007

I’m getting trackback spam on all my blogs lately, despite having SK2 and at least one trackback spam plugin on every install. They all go something like this:
“Sapphire wrote an interesting post today, here’s a snippet” and proceed to scrape some content. They are actually linking to you, which might be why the plugins aren’t [...]

Site building crusade

Date November 4, 2007

I’ve got so much going on I haven’t even gotten around to posting about last month’s earnings. I’ll get to it, just not tonight. Right now, I’m too busy building about 20 new sites. Yes, that’s right - overwhelmed with projects, and my solution is to start more.
But there it is, and what I’m rapidly [...]
