Managing staff and launching new blogs

Date April 16, 2007

Part of the reason I started trying to earn a living online was that I don’t like telling people what to do, and that’s where my career path was headed: management. Ironically, the blog I started just for kicks - Project B-2 Bomber - has led me in exactly that direction. It’s a site about [...]

Ad Networks for Bloggers - My Experiences

Date April 15, 2007

Over the years, I’ve tried a few ad networks. It’s been a while since I did a report on how they all work for me, so here goes.

/* . Unbeatable. Sell direct ads to websites (carefully screened to weed out porn, gambling, etc.). Takes up very little screen real estate, loads quickly, sells well. Great [...]

Trying AdEngage

Date April 13, 2007

As you can see, I’m giving AdEngage a try. Wil suggested several other ad networks which I may also try out in the near future (I’ve applied to a couple of them).
I like how the ad is set up to fit into your space instead of requiring me to make sure my column is wide [...]

PROJECT MAI TAI INDEXED

Date April 12, 2007

Yes! Google finally indexed Project Mai Tai with over 1,000 pages and 4 inbound links.
It’s kinda too bad that puts an end to our “What can you do without Google” study. Not that I’m complaining!

Outing myself

Date April 12, 2007

I have another blog. Those of you who go all Sherlock Holmes about which domains belong to whom may already know about it. I wanted to wait and make sure I had enough content for it before I announced it.
It’s called ChillyCool. It started life as a directory, then I moved the directory off the [...]

What would you replace AdBrite with?

Date April 11, 2007

I’ve done well in the past with AdBrite, pulling in $20-40 every month back when that seemed like a decent chunk of change. Now that /* is dumping $250+ per month in my PayPal, those little AdBrite checks are becoming just another errand I have to run (to deposit them at the bank).
The reason [...]

TextLinkAds adds article footer links

Date April 10, 2007

/* is now offering links for sale on the footers of your posts. The email I got said “your most popular posts” so I’m not sure if they let people pick and choose or if that’s just a fancy way of referring to all my posts.
If you use WordPress, all you need to do [...]

Spam Attack!

Date April 9, 2007

Last night, one of my sites got suspended. It was the only one on a particular reseller account, so I freaked (I couldn’t unsuspend it, either). The reason in Cpanel was “spam violations”, which really freaked me out since I don’t spam, and that had to mean someone had somehow accessed the domain to send [...]

Lowering standards

Date April 8, 2007

I’ve been killing myself for the past few weeks trying to come up with three posts a day for two different blogs… plus various posts for other blogs. That’s a helluva lot of hours writing, unless you’re content to post complete crap.
Not only does crap bore me; I think the blogosphere is so [...]

Project Mai Tai Update - over 100 uniques per day

Date April 7, 2007

Project Mai Tai is still progressing about like similar sites I’ve had that weren’t banned by Google. Mai Tai has attracted a link or two from a fairly high-traffic site in its niche, and that seems to be bringing in most of the visitors. Last month, the daily visitors were between about 15 [...]
