Stirring the shit storm to bring traffic

Date March 29, 2007

Aaron Wall posted some ways to “accidentally on purpose” start a controversy on your blog.  Why?  Controversy brings traffic, but maybe you don’t want to be blamed for it.
Um… I know that sounds like a good idea, but I’ve done his first tip accidentally not on purpose more than once: leave something out so your [...]

Project Mai Tai - Digg Traffic

Date March 29, 2007

Yesterday I reported that I’d done something I hoped would significantly boost Mai Tai’s traffic. While I was at it, I also dugg one of my posts.
The thing I did to significantly boost traffic hasn’t come through yet - we’ll see if it does. The Digg effect, however, brought me 79 new visitors [...]

I feel like such an expert!

Date March 29, 2007

Someone on a forum just asked me how I did something on one of my blogs.  They thought it was a plugin, but it’s actually just CSS.  And I did have to come up with it myself, because I couldn’t find a theme that did it.
But you know, a year ago I probably would have [...]

Five Reasons Why I Blog

Date March 28, 2007

Chrissie from LeaningGeek tagged me with this meme.
Five Reasons Why I Blog:

I’m a creative person, and this lets me express a lot of that.
Instant Audience!  Every creative person’s dream.
It’s a way to get across important social ideas that aren’t getting attention from the mainstream media.
It’s so truly democratic in some ways. At least [...]

Project Mai Tai - weblife without Google

Date March 28, 2007

For those of you just tuning in, I’ve decided to make Project Mai Tai (domain banned from Google) into an experiment: how far can a decent site get without Google?
I’ve got a couple of fairly regular commenters now.  I’ve had a couple of recent story tips in emails.  My bookmark rate is around 50%, which [...]

My first attempt at a Digg post

Date March 26, 2007

I had an idea for a post that could maybe be right for Digg (I’ve been reading a lot about Digg lately). I’ve posted the story on another site, submitted it to Digg, and proceeded to wait and see what happens.
My maximum number of Diggs on anything has to be around 3. I [...]

Writing an eBook

Date March 24, 2007

I was telling an offline friend about Project 2168 the other day. She knows nothing about affiliate marketing or any of this stuff. I told her I planned to increase my online earnings by about $500/month within a few months with this new project I had going.
“I could never do something like that,” [...]

Building my ten new sites

Date March 23, 2007

I’ve got four of my ten new sites put together.  Yesterday, I started adding content.  Then 6,000 offline things demanded my attention.  I feel like I’m running a preschool lately, but these things happen, and then they pass and life gets manageable again.  (Note: do not argue with me on this point.  I’ve pasted a [...]

Attracting advertisers

Date March 21, 2007

Problogger has this to say about attracting advertisers to a blog.  What do you guys think of the suggestions mentioned here?  For example, is sharing your stats with potential advertisers a good idea if those stats are unimpressive?  Maybe it is, as long as your prices are in line with the stats.
All of my sites [...]
