Stupid WordPress trick
June 26, 2006
Recently, one of my WordPress powered sites got really sluggish in the admin panel. As I typed my entries, the response time of the cursor would get slower and slower, until it took several seconds for it to move from one place to another, or highlight a word on double-click. I noticed my [...]
Distractions
June 25, 2006
I made the greatest To Do list the other day. It doesn’t matter. I sit down to do the things on it, and as I do them, I have to back up and do other things so that I can do them, and before I know it, I’m researching or doing something that [...]
Optimize your database!
June 24, 2006
Ever notice your database-driven sites getting slow to load, or sticky? Maybe the comments take forever to post, or the admin panel seems wonky (I believe that’s the technical term). You may need to optimize your database.
This is not as scary as it sounds:
First of all, backup your database! That way, you’re [...]
Kudos to Serendipity one more time
June 23, 2006
Once again, I have no regrets about using Serendipity for my blogging system on this site instead of WordPress. I’ve experimented with a few blogging platforms, and WordPress is generally my system of choice because there are so many plugins and options, and such a huge community of developers.
But Serendipity is a completely different [...]
Yeah, and the Oscars are always right, too

Looks like not everyone is pleased about the MarketingSherpa nominations. Seobook, posting here on Threadwatch doesn’t get why his blog and SEW weren’t included. Neither do I, but find this a little over the top:
Is there any point to awards that do not even list the best choices as an option?
Taking this question [...]
AMJ hits the MarketingSherpa nomination list!
June 21, 2006
Thanks for the well-wishes I’ve received for making it to the voting list on MarketingSherpa’s Reader’s Choice Blog & Podcasting Awards 2006. It’s so good to see my little blog in the company of some very illustrious sites.
To be honest, it surprises me that this site took off at all. Sure, on those [...]
Google Dance in Progress?
June 18, 2006
Just in the past couple of days, the number of pages indexed in Google has doubled (or better) for several of my sites. Pagerank still shows the same everywhere I’ve checked it, but this might be the sign of something in the works. I’m not the only one seeing changes:
SEW forums
Cre8asite
Or could it [...]
Free backgrounds & photos
June 17, 2006
Here are a couple of sources for free graphics for websites.
Bloggrounds offers a really nice assortment of free tiled backgrounds, designed specifically for blogs - but I can see them working on most any site. Terms of use are very fair, and don’t exclude commercial sites. I’m using one of their backgrounds on [...]
Final word on Yahoo
June 16, 2006
No, seriously.
After some confusion from Yahoo over exactly whether their exclusion policy forbids keeping their ads on the same page with non-contextual ad services like AdBrite, I finally got a third answer in email.
Placing non-contextual ads, such as AdBrite, on the same page with Yahoo! contextual ads does not violate our guidelines.
So I’ve put their [...]
