The AdWord AdVenture ConTinues
March 11, 2005
I’m running my first AdWords campaign, and it’s just confirming my undying dislike of Google. I don’t hate them with a passion, but like every really big name in computer-related tech, they’re overblown and only skirting by because the people who don’t know what an URL is so vastly outnumber those who do.
Yesterday I complained [...]
Google needs to give us real-time stats
March 10, 2005
So I’m running my first AdWords campaign, trying to get my feet wet and see how this works. And I’m thinking I must be missing something, because it says the stats can be up to three hours behind. Holy…! But it turns out it’s not just me.
See, the way AdWords works, you set a daily [...]
Google Stuffs Keywords
March 8, 2005
Well, here’s a pickle. Google’s been caught hanging out in the do as we say and not as we do school of thought. They’re stuffing keywords into their own pages.
Their rules explicitly forbid this. There’s some debate over whether it’s really such a bad thing or not. But no matter how you come [...]
Propogate me, baby!
March 8, 2005
See if this sounds familiar. You get an idea for a new site. You find a domain name. You find a host. You sign up with both, marry the two together. You start building the site on the server, even though the domain hasn’t propogated yet, and you have to use that weird little IP [...]
Competition for adSense?
March 8, 2005
The informed rumor mill has it that Yahoo! is testing a contextual ads program that will compete against AdSense. Here’s hoping they do a good job of it. Adhearus and the other Google competitors may produce ads that look sort of similar, but the relevancy just ain’t there at all.
I hope this works. Competition is [...]
Ah, the mythical Sandbox
March 7, 2005
Here’s an interesting article on the Google Sandbox effect. What’s interesting is that it doesn’t tell you anything. No, what’s really interesting is that it tells you Google ain’t tellin’ you nuthin’. SandBox Discussion Based on Questions to Google at SES
The verdict is still out on the Google secret sauce. What exactly do they want [...]
Martha’s Back and yer gonna be in trouble…
March 4, 2005
I said when Martha Stewart went to jail on those rather hilarious charges, that she’d emerge more successful than ever before. Now we’ll see.
What exactly was the whole point of that little exercise? From my own experience, I know that thousands of people use insider information all the time and never get caught. The amount [...]
New Host!
March 1, 2005
Well, after my old host for this blog managed to lose a week’s worth of posts in one little server crash, I have found a new host, and am ready to get back on track.
It’s really hard to tell if a host is good or bad until you get into it with them, but I’ve [...]
Moving a WordPress Blog
March 1, 2005
There are some tutorials out there on how to move a WordPress blog to a new domain and/or new server. They’re complicated, and there’s a lot that can go wrong.
When I went to move this blog, however, some of the tutorials were down for the weekend, and the others I found seemed to be adding [...]
