The MyGeek PPC Experiment

Date March 23, 2005

As I posted a few days ago, I decided to try out another PPC besides AdWords, and picked MyGeek. They have a few things going for them - click-fraud protection chief among them. You can block suspicious IP’s, and you can choose exactly what engines carry your ads. You can start with as little as [...]

Write your CSS in Firefox

Date March 22, 2005

I’ve been getting more requests for WYSIWYG CSS tools, and I can’t believe I didn’t mention this one before:
The chrispederick.com Firefox Web Developer’s Extension. It’s a suite of tools to help you develop CSS style sheets. You can also use it to play with other people’s sites when you visit them (of course you can’t [...]

AdWords and Invalid Clicks… Hmm!

Date March 22, 2005

Here’s a positive note for the day. My server’s weblogs are showing more clicks from Google than my Google AdWords report. In short, Google isn’t charging me for every click AdWords generated. I took a closer look at the weblogs, and realized the number of missing clicks in the AdWords report responded with the number [...]

Finally! Avoiding PPC click-fraud

Date March 21, 2005

It appears the big SE’s still haven’t managed to get on the ball to prevent click-fraud, but someone else has: BlowSearch Offers Source Exclusion: When Will The Majors Do The Same?
What does this mean, exactly? I blogged about click fraud a while back, and asked why the big SE’s haven’t yet figured out how [...]

Trying out MyGeek’s PPC

Date March 21, 2005

Okay, so I just got done saying I was gonna go sign up at BlowSearch and try out their click-fraud protected PPC. When I got there, it said you could start with as little as $20. Turns out this is not true. They’ve upped it to $50 without changing the website. Lovely.
So I joined one [...]

Here’s a cool tool for submitting your blog to feeds, which will bring it traffic: Feed Shark. It’s cool because it’s a one-stop shop for submitting your blog to 21 of the best RSS feed services in just a few button pushes. If you did no other submitting than this, it would bring you some [...]

PR and Traffic Building

Date March 20, 2005

For those who don’t know, Google assigns websites PageRank, or PR. Your PR is supposed to give an idea how many sites are linking to you, and take into account the quality of those links. Which should tell you how popular your site is. And popularity determines ranking.
But PR is not the only factor Google [...]

Dynamic KeyWords

Date March 20, 2005

Here’s a little trick I just found and am testing out. Instead of trying to write an ideal headline on all of your AdWords Ads, just give ‘em what they searched for, using this syntax:
{KeyWord:Default Headline}
This causes the ad headline to read as their search term - as long as their exact search string is [...]

Become.com is a tease

Date March 18, 2005

Become.com keeps groping my sites, but they don’t index. They’ve hit 58 pages on one of my sites this month alone, in several visits. They’re showing up as live humans and not bots, so I’m guessing they’re checking out sites, giving them a good squeeze… then walking away.
What a way to join the neighborhood. [...]

WYSIWYG CSS?

Date March 17, 2005

In the past, I’ve written about one or two good WYSIWYG programs that help you write CSS visually, by showing you what it’s going to look like as you work. Now I’m going to talk about why none of these will do you a bit of good unless you learn CSS.
CSS is an amazingly versatile [...]
